Frank Gashumba has thrown down a challenge to Uganda’s self-proclaimed prophets and apostles, saying he is ready to get saved if any of them can heal a critically ill patient at a major Kampala hospital.
The outspoken media personality made the remarks during a morning talk show on Radio 4, where he continued his criticism of what he described as fake prophets, apostles and pastors.
Gashumba questioned the special healing powers claimed by some religious leaders, arguing that those who claim to possess such powers should be able to demonstrate them when confronted with serious illness.
He pointed to major hospitals including Mulago, Nsambya and Mengo, saying he would personally accompany any prophet or apostle who was willing to prove their abilities by healing a critically ill patient.
“I am ready to get saved today. I want any of the so-called prophets and apostles to go to the ICU in either Nsambya, Mulago, or Mengo Hospital and make a lame person walk. They are using Jesus’ name to extort money from poor and ignorant people.”
Gashumba further challenged religious leaders who claim to have special anointing, questioning why some allegedly seek medical treatment when they themselves become sick.
He also referenced the COVID-19 pandemic as part of his argument, questioning how people who claimed extraordinary spiritual powers could still take precautions against illness.
“I am willing to kneel and apologize to every prophet and pastor if they do that. How do you tell me you have special anointed power but travel to Dubai to get treated when you get sick? You used to wear six masks during COVID; how do you have special powers?”
Gashumba’s remarks come amid his continued criticism of religious figures he believes exploit vulnerable or financially struggling people by invoking Jesus’ name.
For now, his challenge remains just that—a challenge. He says he is prepared to change his position and publicly apologize if a prophet or apostle can meet the test he has set.
