Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya has publicly addressed claims by his illegitimate daughter, 17-year-old Nambatya Mellan Lutaaya, who accused him of being a deadbeat dad on social media. The controversy has captured the attention of the media and sparked widespread debate online.

During a phone interview, Lutaaya confirmed Mellan is indeed his daughter but said her social media outburst was influenced by malicious parties.

“She doesn’t deserve to be used like that. She is old enough, and I can take her with me. I want to introduce her to her clan. Have taken care of other people’s children; mine cannot fail me. I want my child,” Lutaaya pleaded.

The Tuition Dispute Explained

Lutaaya explained that he had paid Mellan’s full tuition at Stella Marris, Nsuube, believing it was the right environment for her education. However, her mother reportedly disagreed with the school choice and moved her back to a previous institution.

Mellan was later expelled from her new school for physically assaulting a teacher. The school permitted her only to return for exams, denying attendance in classes.

“The mother had never called me to tell me about the expulsion. A parent alerted me about it. She got into another school, and they asked for 1.96 million for her to be around until exams. I had paid the money, but they kept asking,” he explained.

Denied Quality Time With His Daughter

Lutaaya also expressed frustration over being denied quality time with Mellan, claiming that this had led to public embarrassment and unnecessary media attention. He publicly asked Mellan’s mother to allow him to personally raise her, citing his experience in caring for other children and his desire to reconnect with his daughter.

“She is old enough, and I can take her with me. I want my child,” he said, emphasizing his willingness to provide guidance and stability.

Mellan’s Side of the Story

Prior to Lutaaya’s statement, Mellan went public on TikTok, alleging that her father had refused to pay school fees despite repeated attempts to reach out. She claimed that calls, legal action, and third-party mediation efforts had failed, leaving her no choice but to speak out publicly.

“I tried calling him, going to court, and using third parties, but nothing worked. I had to use social media to be heard,” Mellan said in her post.

Public Reaction

The father-daughter controversy has generated heated discussions on social media, with fans divided over the issue. Some sympathize with Mellan for taking her concerns public, while others support Lutaaya’s call for unity and parental responsibility.

“It’s a messy situation, but hopefully they can work things out privately,” one online commentator wrote.

Looking Ahead

As the debate continues, Hon. Geoffrey Lutaaya is pleading for the chance to personally care for Mellan, aiming to resolve the dispute without further media drama. The story highlights the challenges of family disputes in the public eye and underscores the importance of communication between parents for the welfare of children.
