Ugandan music star Hassan Kigozi, better known as Geosteady, has spoken publicly for the first time about his battle with substance abuse since leaving rehabilitation.

Appearing on Sanyuka Television on Monday, the “Owooma” hitmaker shared an honest and emotional account of how his life spiraled after turning to drugs in 2024.

“For me, I started using substances in 2024 because I thought it would help me work harder. At first, you feel confident; you can push through days without sleep,” Geosteady revealed.

He admitted that his addiction pushed him to extreme levels, including staying awake for two days straight while locked in the studio, a habit that began to take a toll on both his career and personal life.

The Broad Spectrum of Addiction

Geosteady stressed that addiction isn’t limited to drugs. During his rehabilitation, he encountered people battling food addiction, sleep disorders, bipolar disorder, and depression.

“Many people use substances for different reasons, some to escape stress, others to work harder,” he said.

This perspective highlights the complexity of addiction and the varied struggles individuals face while coping with pressures in their careers and personal lives.

Addiction’s Impact on Fatherhood

The singer also opened up about how his substance abuse affected his role as a father.

“For me, one of my greatest joys has been being a parent. Co-parenting was going smoothly, but in the last seven months it has become very difficult. Many terms and conditions have been placed in the way, and for six months I wasn’t even around,” Geosteady explained.

His candid confession underscores the ripple effect addiction can have on family life, showing that the consequences of substance abuse go far beyond personal health.

Turning Point: Friends Intervene

Geosteady shared that his breaking point came when close friends stepped in and took him to rehabilitation, giving him the opportunity to confront his addiction head-on.

“It’s the support of loved ones that saved me from continuing down a destructive path,” he reflected.
