Seasoned Ugandan media personality Kazibwe Bashir Mbazira has admitted that he made a premature decision when he resigned from Pearl FM, believing he had already reached the peak of his radio career.
Mbazira, a former Kawempe South legislator, said he had convinced himself that he had accomplished everything he wanted at the station and would rather leave while at the top than stay long enough to experience a decline.
“It was an act of not looking ahead at the future. I reached a moment and in my head I thought that I had done enough. I resigned from my job and told my bosses that I was done with working,” he said.
At the time, Mbazira believed his career at Pearl FM had reached its natural endpoint.
“I thought I had done it all because I’m a person who doesn’t want to reach the peak and decline awkwardly. I had reached my peak at Pearl FM and thought of retiring,” he explained.
But stepping away from radio did not last.
After his resignation, Mbazira began receiving offers from other media houses. He eventually chose to join Bukedde FM, a decision that would force him to reassess just how much he still had to offer.
“However, the People Power voice called me to return to radio and other stations gave me offers. I opted for Bukedde FM. When I reached there, that’s when I realised that I had not done enough at Pearl FM. I was like starting afresh,” he said.
His time at Bukedde FM pushed him into areas of journalism he had not previously explored to the same extent, particularly investigative reporting.
“The time I spent at Bukedde FM, I did things I didn’t believe that I could do as well. I dived deeper into investigative journalism,” Mbazira said.
He recalled working on investigations involving people he described as “carnibols,” alleging disturbing practices involving human flesh.
That experience ultimately changed his perspective on his own career. What he had once considered his peak at Pearl FM turned out to be only one stage of a much longer professional journey.
Mbazira’s story is a reminder that leaving at the perceived top does not always mean the journey is over. In his case, stepping away from Pearl FM eventually led him back to radio—and into work he says he had never imagined himself doing.
