Veteran Ugandan singer Mesach Semakula has urged people to share their success with their parents, saying that appreciating them and making them happy can bring blessings into their lives.
Speaking during a podcast appearance, Semakula encouraged people to remember their parents whenever they receive something good, whether through gifts, financial support or other gestures of appreciation.
The singer used the word “witchcraft” jokingly to describe what he considers one of the most important ways to attract blessings, referring to the way some people associate wealth and success with supernatural practices.

“The first witchcraft, let me call it that because that’s what people say when you become rich, that you use witchcraft, the first thing you have to do is to make your parents happy,” Semakula said.
He added that treating one’s mother well and receiving her prayers, or giving something to one’s father, could be a meaningful way to build a good life.
“Every time you pamper your mother and she prays blessings on you, or gift your father something, that’s the first way to unlock a good life,” he said.
Mesach Semakula Shares How He Honours His Late Father
Beyond encouraging people to appreciate their living parents, Semakula explained that he continues to honour his late father through a family gathering held towards the end of every year.
The singer said he dedicates the last weekend of the year to remembering his father at the family’s grounds in Buwaate, where relatives come together to reconnect and celebrate their shared heritage.
According to Semakula, the gathering lasts four days, giving family members time to get to know one another, share meals and drinks, and strengthen their relationships.
He believes his late father would have been happy to see the family maintaining those bonds and enjoying one another’s company.
“We spend four days there getting to know each other as family members, eat and drink, and I believe if my father was still alive, he’d love to see people happy like that, and I know I get blessings from that,” he said.

A Message About Family and Gratitude
Semakula’s reflections centre on gratitude, family unity and the importance of recognising the people who supported someone along the way.
His annual gathering also illustrates how families can preserve connections with relatives who have passed away while keeping traditions alive for younger generations.
For the veteran musician, honouring parents extends beyond words. It includes sharing one’s achievements with them during their lifetime and continuing to celebrate their memory after their death.
Through his advice, Semakula is encouraging people to make time for their parents, appreciate what they have contributed to their lives and maintain family ties as they pursue their own success.
