National Unity Platform (NUP) president Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu has officially opened a new regional party office in Mbarara, surprising party members and bypassing prior notification to security agencies.

“We bought this land, started construction, and have unveiled the offices without security or even some of our members knowing,” Kyagulanyi said during the unveiling ceremony, highlighting the strategic nature of the move.

The Mbarara office is set to become a central hub for mobilizing support in western Uganda as the 2026 presidential campaigns kick off next week.

“Our campaigns in western Uganda will be based here. I therefore urge all our candidates and members to make use of this office,” Kyagulanyi added, signaling a major push for grassroots organization in the region.

Bright Muhumuza, NUP’s regional coordinator for western Uganda, introduced party leaders and aspirants for various positions during the ceremony. Secretary General Lewis Rubongoya disclosed that the land for the new office was acquired in July 2024, and that the party has already secured the title.

“We bought this land in July 2024 without anyone knowing, including our members in Mbarara. We have the land title ready,” Rubongoya confirmed.

Highlighting the importance of empowering young leaders, Kyagulanyi urged voters to support youthful aspirants across all positions, not just the presidential race:

“Give these young people a chance—vote for them after voting for me,” he said, emphasizing NUP’s commitment to youth-driven leadership.

The Mbarara office is part of NUP’s growing network of 40 offices nationwide, with 10 located in western Uganda. The opening proceeded smoothly, with minimal security presence apart from Kyagulanyi’s presidential security detail, Electoral Commission support, the Leader of Opposition security team, and NUP supporters.

Several Members of Parliament attended the event, having been invited under the pretext of a meeting to discuss the party manifesto, only to be surprised by the office unveiling, reflecting the secrecy surrounding the initiative.
