After more than a year away from the spotlight, Producer Didi is finally ready to tell his truth — and it’s both heartbreaking and eye-opening.
The celebrated Ugandan music producer, who secretly checked into a rehabilitation facility to battle drug addiction, is opening up about his recovery journey, revealing that his struggle didn’t start with street drugs, but with a hospital-prescribed painkiller that nearly cost him everything.
💊 “It Started in the Hospital” — Didi Opens Up
In a candid interview, Didi shared that his addiction began during treatment for pancreatic complications, when doctors administered tramadol through an IV drip to ease his pain.
“It all began when I started having problems with my pancreas,” he explained. “I was put on a drip of tramadol. It’s a drug that many people use, but it’s extremely addictive — more dangerous than most people realize.”
What started as a legitimate medical treatment quickly spiraled into a dependency he couldn’t control.
Over time, Didi found himself needing more of the opioid painkiller to function, and it began taking a toll on his health, appetite, and mental stability.
“I got so used to it that I wasn’t eating anymore,” he revealed. “Tramadol is very dangerous. Many young people are falling into the trap of abusing it without knowing the damage it causes.”

⚠️ The Hidden Epidemic of Painkiller Addiction
While many associate addiction with alcohol or narcotics like marijuana and cocaine, Didi’s story shines a light on a growing and largely silent epidemic — painkiller abuse among the youth.
He warns that modern painkillers, especially those prescribed in hospitals, are fast becoming one of the leading causes of addiction in Uganda and beyond.
“There are now modern drugs that most people use, yet they come from the hospital — painkillers,” Didi said. “When you visit rehab centers, many are being admitted there because of painkillers, not weed.”
Health experts have long cautioned against the misuse of tramadol, a synthetic opioid that can cause extreme dependence when taken outside prescribed limits. The drug, which is easily available in some pharmacies and even on the streets, is increasingly being misused for recreational purposes — especially among young men in the music and entertainment industry.
😔 A Dark Chapter Turned Lesson
For Didi, addiction was not just a physical struggle but also an emotional and spiritual battle.
He admits that his lowest moments came when he could no longer work, eat, or connect with people the way he used to. Music — the very thing that once gave him purpose — became distant as his world revolved around chasing the next high.
But with help from family, friends, and professional rehab counselors, Didi slowly found his way back to himself.
“Rehab wasn’t easy,” he confessed. “There were days I wanted to give up, but I realized I had to fight for my life. Music is my passion, but I couldn’t enjoy it while I was trapped in addiction.”
After a year and a half of recovery, Didi says he’s now completely sober — and determined to use his story to educate and inspire others.
🎶 From Rock Bottom to Redemption
Known for producing hits across Uganda’s vibrant music scene, Didi’s name carries weight in the entertainment industry. His comeback isn’t just about music — it’s about redemption and awareness.
The producer says he’s working on new music projects that reflect his growth and experiences, with songs that touch on mental health, recovery, and the power of resilience.
He’s also planning to collaborate with artists who share a message of hope and healing, in an effort to reach young people struggling with similar battles.
“I want people to know it’s okay to ask for help. Addiction is not a weakness — it’s something you can overcome if you’re willing to face it,” Didi said.
💬 Fans React to Didi’s Brave Confession

Industry peers have also commended Didi for his courage to speak out about a topic many prefer to keep hidden, calling his openness a “wake-up call” to the entertainment world.
🙏 Spreading Awareness, Saving Lives
As Didi reclaims his place in the industry, he says his mission is simple: to spread awareness about painkiller abuse and remind people that even legal drugs can be dangerous when misused.
“If my story can stop even one person from going down that road, then it’s worth it,” he said.
He now volunteers with recovery organizations, visiting schools and communities to speak to youth about substance abuse prevention and the importance of mental health support.
💪 A Message of Hope
Didi’s recovery is more than just a personal victory — it’s a powerful message about resilience, courage, and second chances.
His story proves that healing is possible, even after the darkest battles.
“I thank God for another chance,” he said. “If I made it out, others can too. Let’s talk about it. Let’s help each other heal.”
