TikTok personalities Ronald Mayega, popularly known as Omunyarwanda Wa Bobi, and Swaibu Kakaire have been remanded to Luzira Prison after appearing in court over allegations involving Local Government Minister Balaam Barugahara.
The two appeared before Buganda Road Grade One Magistrate Winnie Nakamya Jatiko, where they denied the charges brought against them.
Prosecution alleges that Mayega and Kakaire used their TikTok platform to publish statements accusing Minister Balaam of engaging in acts of sodomy, among other allegations.
The pair are facing charges including publishing false information, operating a media outlet without a Uganda Communications Commission (UCC) licence and conspiracy to commit an offence.
Prosecution further alleges that the two used their online platform, one.one.ug.media, to make claims linking Balaam to alleged attempts to incite Mayega and other individuals to engage in acts of disorder.
The allegations remain matters before court, and Mayega and Kakaire have denied the charges against them.
Following their court appearance, Magistrate Nakamya Jatiko ordered that the two be remanded to Luzira Prison until September 28, 2026, while police continue investigations.
The court proceedings also took another turn after allegations emerged that the suspects had been tortured while in custody. The magistrate directed prison authorities to investigate those claims.
For now, the case remains at the investigation stage, with the next court date set for September 28. The allegations against Mayega and Kakaire have not been established as facts, and their denial of the charges remains part of the court record.
