Veteran Ugandan singer Stecia Mayanja says she plans to take a five-year break from releasing new music after putting out her next six songs.
Stecia revealed the plan during an appearance on Shalom 256, where she reflected on the changing music industry and explained why she believes the writing behind a song is just as important as the sound itself.
According to the singer, artists from her generation had stepped back to give younger musicians room to make their mark. However, she said she has been watching how the newer generation approaches music and feels some artists are becoming exhausted by the process.
“We are the music pioneers and we had taken a step back to give new artists a chance and see what they are saying but we have seen that they get tired easily and they don’t leave the studio,” Stecia said.

She then revealed her own plan for the coming years.
“In fact I’m going to release six songs and spend five years without new ones,” she added.
Stecia is not simply talking about disappearing from the music scene altogether. She said she is already planning around the five-year period and intends to hold a concert in 2028 before stepping away from releasing new material.
The veteran singer also addressed how she navigates an increasingly digital music industry, particularly as platforms and distribution methods continue to change.
Rather than personally handling every aspect of the modern music business, Stecia said she relies on her professional management team for guidance.
“I am managed, I have a very good professional manager and they tell me what to do,” she said.
For now, Stecia’s immediate focus is on the six songs she says she plans to release. If she follows through with the plan, the project would mark a significant pause in her release schedule — while her planned 2028 concert could provide another major moment for her fans before the five-year break begins.
