Abba Marcus Mayanja, the eldest son of Ugandan musician Jose Chameleone, has been released from custody in Minnesota, three days after his arrest on a misdemeanor domestic assault charge.
According to the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office, the 20-year-old was released at 12:31 p.m. local time on August 17, 2026, under what court records describe as a conditional release.
The specific conditions attached to his release were not publicly available.
Court records show Marcus had two release options: a $6,000 bail or bond without conditions, or release without a cash payment subject to conditions. He was ultimately released under the latter option.

His release came on the same day he was scheduled to appear in court at 9:30 a.m. at Ridgedale.
Marcus faces a charge listed as “Domestic Assault-Misdemeanor; An Act to Cause Fear of Immediate Bodily Harm or Death.” The charge remains pending, meaning his release does not resolve the case or determine the outcome of the allegations.
The arrest followed a turbulent period involving Marcus and his pregnant girlfriend, Angelica Becker, also known as Angel. Becker has accused Marcus of assaulting her during her pregnancy and has previously pushed back against people encouraging her to forgive him, saying she intended to seek justice over the alleged violence.

Marcus has previously denied allegations of physical abuse. In May, after Becker accused him of hitting her, he responded: “She’s trying to get into my head by making rumours about me hitting her… I didn’t. Can you just chill?”
The couple announced earlier this year that they were expecting a child. Marcus has been living in the United States, where he has pursued education and music.
The situation has also been complicated by Becker’s public comments about their relationship. In a recent social media video, she said she still loved and missed Marcus despite their dispute.
“I still fkin love him bro. I still do. Even if he is gone bro, I still f**kin miss him. Genuinely!” she said, adding that he remains the father of her child.
Marcus is now out of custody, but the domestic assault case remains pending as the legal process continues.
