Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica has defended TikTok’s growing influence on the music industry, saying the platform gives upcoming artists a chance to gain recognition without spending large sums of money on promotion.
The Fresh Gang Entertainment boss believes TikTok has made it easier for creative people to showcase their abilities to wider audiences, including musicians who might otherwise struggle to afford expensive music videos, studio sessions and mainstream media campaigns.

According to Fik Fameica, the platform’s biggest advantage is that it allows talent and creativity to attract attention without artists necessarily having to pay to trend.
“The most important thing, or positive side, is that this platform joins us. It’s a platform where you don’t need to pay to be seen or to trend,” the rapper said.
He added: “It’s a platform where you only need to be creative and talented to showcase what you have, and the world gets to see it.”
Fik Fameica also pointed to the way ordinary video clips can become viral moments, helping introduce previously unknown personalities to large audiences. He noted that some artists have attracted attention through TikTok even before recording their first songs.
For musicians working with limited resources, the platform offers a relatively accessible way to create content using a mobile phone and promote their work online. This can reduce their dependence on costly promotional methods, although gaining widespread attention is not guaranteed.
However, Fik Fameica’s support for TikTok comes with a warning about how some musicians are using it.
The rapper acknowledged that the platform has a downside, particularly when artists begin making music primarily to follow viral trends instead of focusing on developing their sound and building sustainable careers.

“TikTok has done more good than harm. However, the fact that you talked about artists doing songs for the trend, that’s a bit negative, and it’s happening,” he said.
His comments highlight a tension within the modern music industry: viral exposure can introduce a song or artist to a broad audience, but popularity on social media does not automatically translate into a lasting career.
For Fik Fameica, the solution is not to reject TikTok but to use it alongside traditional media. Artists can take advantage of the platform’s reach while continuing to develop their music, identity and audience beyond short-lived online trends.
The message from the rapper is clear: TikTok can open doors for artists who lack large promotional budgets, but creativity and visibility need to be part of a bigger plan for a sustainable music career.
