Johnnie Walker has launched its new “Keep Walking” campaign in East Africa, bringing a fresh focus to the people and journeys behind progress while naming Ugandan musician Joshua Baraka as its Icon Walker and face of the campaign in Uganda.
The campaign was launched at 1420 in Kampala and is built around a simple idea: progress is about more than reaching a destination. It is also about the decisions, setbacks, persistence and small victories that happen along the way.
For young East Africans, that journey can mean personal growth, new opportunities, greater impact and the freedom to build their futures on their own terms.

At the centre of the campaign is the “One Step Closer” narrative, which celebrates the idea that every decision to keep moving, every challenge overcome and every small win can bring someone closer to a bigger ambition.
That message will be brought to life through stories of creators, entrepreneurs, innovators and other cultural voices who are building their own paths and challenging convention.
In Uganda, Joshua Baraka has been selected to embody that spirit.
The acclaimed musician’s journey, according to the campaign, reflects the consistency, creativity, courage and self-belief involved in building a career one step at a time.
As part of his role as Icon Walker, Baraka will take the Keep Walking message beyond Kampala through a Johnnie Walker-sponsored roadshow across Uganda. The initiative will spotlight Ugandans and their individual journeys while connecting the campaign with ambitions being pursued across the country.

The roadshow will eventually return to Kampala for a major live performance by Baraka, bringing together the people who have supported him throughout his journey.
“Keep Walking is about recognising that the destination is only one part of the story. The real story is everything that happens along the way, the decisions, the risks, the resilience and the courage to keep going even when the path is not always clear,” said Christine Kyokunda, Brand Manager, Johnnie Walker Uganda.
Kyokunda said Baraka represents the spirit of the campaign and highlighted the importance of recognising progress even before reaching a final destination.

For Baraka, the new partnership represents another stage in his own career.
“I have always believed that the journey is just as important as the destination,” he said. “There are so many moments that people do not see, the work, the uncertainty, the decisions and the small wins that eventually become something bigger.”
The campaign extends beyond music, with Johnnie Walker also set to celebrate African creators, entrepreneurs, innovators and cultural figures whose work reflects creativity, optimism, community and an entrepreneurial spirit.
The broader message is that progress does not have to look the same for everyone. It can mean creating opportunities, solving problems, building communities, expressing creativity or simply continuing to pursue a personal ambition.
With Joshua Baraka leading the Ugandan chapter, Keep Walking is turning the spotlight not only on where people want to go, but on every step they take to get there.
