Prince Jacksonville Jacob Oyo is expected to return from the United States and be presented to the Tooro Kingdom at Karuziika Palace on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, adding a new development to the ongoing succession dispute following the death of King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV.
The announcement was made by Prince Yoweri Komwiswa in a press release shared on X on Friday, September 18.
Komwiswa said Prince Jacob would arrive from the United States on Monday before being presented to Musuuga, the head of the Babiito royal clan, and the wider Tooro Kingdom at Karuziika Palace.
“Prince Jacob will fly in from America on Monday and will be presented to Musuuga and entire Tooro Kingdom at Karuzika Palace on Wednesday September 23rd 2026,” Komwiswa said.
He also invited media organisations and kingdom stakeholders to attend the presentation.
New Development in Tooro Succession Dispute
The announcement comes days after the burial of King Oyo at the Karambi Royal Tombs, where Prince Edward Rukidi Kijanangoma was presented as his successor and performed traditional rituals associated with the transfer of royal authority.
Kijanangoma was selected by a 21-member Babiito royal clan succession committee following King Oyo’s death on August 27, 2026.
The selection has been contested by members of the late king’s family, including Queen Mother Best Kemigisa and Princess Ruth Komuntale.
The family members have cited a 2022 will that they say identified King Oyo’s biological son as the heir to the Tooro throne.
The existence of the alleged son was first publicly raised following the king’s death. Tooro Prime Minister Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki previously said the late king had left a son whose identity would be disclosed at an appropriate time.
The child had not previously been publicly identified.
Prince Jacob’s Identity and Status
The announcement that Prince Jacob will be presented at Karuziika Palace now introduces a named individual into the succession debate.
However, the statement by Prince Komwiswa does not by itself establish Prince Jacob’s identity, parentage or status under Tooro’s customary succession procedures.
The Babiito clan has previously maintained that succession must follow established traditional processes and that claims involving a biological heir should be subjected to the appropriate customary procedures.
Kijanangoma has already been selected by the Babiito succession committee and subsequently endorsed by the Tooro Kingdom Supreme Council as King Oyo’s successor.
His coronation has been scheduled for September 29, 2026, when he is expected to take the name Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I and become the 14th Omukama of Tooro.
Coronation Scheduled for September 29
The timing of Prince Jacob’s planned presentation is significant because it falls just six days before the scheduled coronation.
Attorney General Sam Mayanja has previously said the kingdom is free to proceed with its preparations because no formal court challenge had been filed against the succession process.
The succession dispute could, however, require further consideration if Prince Jacob is presented to the Babiito leadership and his claimed relationship to the late king is formally established.
Such a process could involve consideration of the alleged 2022 will, evidence of parentage and the customary requirements for recognising a royal heir.
The Attorney General has previously indicated that unresolved succession claims could be taken to court if they cannot be settled through the kingdom’s traditional processes.
What Happens Next
The immediate development is the planned presentation of Prince Jacob to Musuuga and the wider Tooro Kingdom at Karuziika Palace on September 23.
It remains to be established what formal recognition, if any, will follow the presentation and how the development will affect the succession process that has already selected and endorsed Kijanangoma.
For now, Kijanangoma remains the successor selected through the Babiito succession process and is scheduled for coronation on September 29.
The presentation of Prince Jacob comes at a significant point in the succession process and could prompt further consideration of the competing claims surrounding King Oyo’s heir.
