Makerere University’s Freshers Ball 2026 was supposed to be a night of music, entertainment and unforgettable performances. Instead, two incidents have pushed the annual student event into the spotlight for reasons beyond the music.
The biggest talking point involved Ugandan rapper Fik Fameica and Makerere Guild President Gracious Kadondi, following a reported interruption during his performance at Impis Rugby Grounds on Saturday.
The event attracted large crowds of students who turned up to enjoy performances from some of Uganda’s popular entertainers, including Nina Roz, Winnie Nwagi, Ykee Benda, Winnie wa Mummy, Da Agent, Azawi and Ecko Star.
However, the atmosphere reportedly intensified when Fik Fameica took to the stage and launched into his hit song Siaka Siaka.

According to reports, Kadondi attempted to interrupt the rapper’s performance to address the students. However, members of Fik Fameica’s team reportedly prevented her from taking the microphone, resulting in a brief disagreement on stage.
Security personnel were subsequently involved, although Fik Fameica continued with his performance as the crowd watched.

The incident has drawn attention to the relationship between event organisers, university leadership and performers, particularly when it comes to managing stage time and addressing audiences during major entertainment events.
But the reported disagreement was not the only moment that generated controversy.
Videos circulating online also showed an unidentified woman climbing onto an elevated platform during the event, where she removed her top before later taking off her shorts as sections of the crowd cheered.
She was eventually pulled down from the platform.
The footage sparked mixed reactions, with some social media users criticising the incident and questioning the event’s security arrangements, while others focused on the wider controversy surrounding the night.
It is important to distinguish the two incidents: the reported disagreement involving Fik Fameica and Kadondi occurred during the performance, while the woman’s actions were a separate episode.
The Freshers Ball has also faced scrutiny over the limited performance time given to some artists, prompting the Makerere Guild to issue an apology to performers, according to a separate report by MBU.
As of the time of the source report, Makerere University management had not publicly commented on the two incidents.
For an event traditionally associated with welcoming new students through music and celebration, the 2026 edition has now become a talking point for more than just its entertainment lineup.
