Kampala, Uganda — Celebrated gospel artist and pastor, Isaac Sserukenya, has shared intimate details about his departure from Robert Kayanja Ministries (Miracle Centre Cathedral), where he served for over three decades.
Sserukenya, 50, left the Rubaga-based mega church in 2022 to establish his own ministry, Simply Ministry, citing a divine calling to start afresh.
A Youth Shaped by Ministry Discipline
Reflecting on his early days, Sserukenya joined the ministry as a secondary school student in 1990. He described Pastor Kayanja’s leadership style as “like a military boot camp,” noting the strict routines and discipline that shaped his spiritual and musical development.
“We used to sleep on the floors of the church, in corridors and storage rooms. One of my friends even had a bed on top of a closet,” he recalled in a televised interview.
“Pastor Kayanja was very strict. He worked so hard and gave us no excuse to be lazy.”
Born into an Anglican family of musicians, Sserukenya and his siblings, including Limit X band co-founder Paul Mutebi, embraced born-again faith while still in school and quickly pursued careers in gospel music.
A Musical Journey at Miracle Centre
Since 1993, Sserukenya served as choir master, overseeing and conducting choirs of thousands. His highlights include working with renowned televangelists such as Joyce Meyer, Creflo Dollar, and most recently, Benny Hinn.
“Those years taught me discipline, teamwork, and how to lead worship on a large scale. The experiences shaped me not just musically, but spiritually,” he noted.

Divine Calling Sparks New Ministry
In 2022, Sserukenya said he felt a divine instruction to leave Rubaga and focus on founding his own church, even though he initially intended to dedicate himself solely to music.
“I received a clear message from God to start Simply Ministry. Surprisingly, I got instant support from Pastor Kayanja, his wife Jessica, and the church,” Sserukenya shared.
Simply Ministry, located in Bunamwaya, is envisioned as “a Worshippers’ home away from home.” The ministry focuses on inclusivity, unity in worship, and living by the Word of God, guided by the Holy Spirit.
Vision and Philosophy
The ministry’s core mission emphasizes:
- Unity in Worship: Bringing people together as one body without boundaries.
- Authentic Worship: Lifting “one sound of true worship to God.”
- Living by God’s Word: Practicing spiritual discipline and guidance from the Bible.
- Simplicity and Clarity: Following the #SimplicityClarityTruth principle in teachings and gatherings.
Events are hosted in Bunamwaya and other locations, offering fellowship, worship, and Bible-based guidance to participants.
“Simply Ministry is about embracing the simplicity of God’s Word and worship. We want everyone who joins to feel at home while growing spiritually,” Sserukenya explained.

A Legacy of Music and Faith
Pastor Isaac Sserukenya remains a prominent figure in Uganda’s gospel music scene, using his platform to inspire worship and community service. His transition from a long-standing role under Pastor Kayanja to leading Simply Ministry marks a new chapter in both his pastoral and musical journey.
“Leaving Rubaga wasn’t easy after 30 years, but God’s plan required faith and courage. Today, Simply Ministry embodies the vision He placed on my heart,” he said.
