Ugandan musician and media personality Tuff B has revealed that he is still waiting on the National Unity Platform (NUP) to respond to his petition challenging the party’s decision to award the Makindye East parliamentary flag to another candidate.
The artist-turned-politician, who had sought the NUP nomination, emphasized that his petition is not just about himself but also represents seven other candidates who competed for the same ticket.
“The petition isn’t for myself; it’s for the other seven candidates too who sought the card with me,” Tuff B explained. “We don’t believe in the credibility of the person who got the card; therefore, I challenged it and I’m awaiting their response.”
Questioning Transparency in Party Endorsement
Tuff B raised concerns about the fairness and transparency of the nomination process, casting doubt on the credibility of the candidate who ultimately received the endorsement. His statement reflects growing discussions among some party supporters about internal party procedures and fairness in candidate selection.
“We need to ensure that every candidate has a fair shot, and that the process is transparent,” he said.

Loyalty to Constituents Comes First
Despite the ongoing petition, Tuff B made it clear that his primary loyalty lies with the people of Makindye East. He referred to them as his primary stakeholders, stating that any decision he makes will prioritize their wishes over party lines.
“My stakeholders, the Makindye East people, decide first, and then my party comes second. Once I get the party’s response, I’ll go back to them to get their decision,” he said.
NUP and Bobi Wine: A Symbol of Hope
Tuff B described his decision to contest under the NUP banner as inspired by the party’s reputation as a symbol of hope and resilience in Uganda. He also expressed continued trust in party president Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, whom he described as a “good leader.”
“I chose NUP because it represents hope for the people, and I trust Bobi Wine’s leadership,” Tuff B stated.
Independent Run Still on the Table
In a previous interview with Anna Talia Oze on Sanyuka TV, Tuff B hinted at the possibility of running as an independent candidate if the party does not resolve his petition in a timely or satisfactory manner.
“Bobi Wine once said that loyalty goes beyond a political party, and that inspired me. I’m committed to serving my people first,” he added.
This approach shows his commitment to constituents over party politics, a stance that could resonate with voters seeking representatives focused on community needs rather than political affiliation alone.
Political Analysts Weigh In
Observers note that Tuff B’s challenge highlights internal party tensions within NUP ahead of elections. Analysts suggest that disputes over nominations are common in major political parties, especially when popular candidates are involved, and they often spark debates about party democracy and transparency.
Some supporters argue that Tuff B’s dual identity as a musician and politician gives him a unique platform to mobilize younger voters, making his case for fairness even more significant.
What’s Next for Tuff B?
As of now, Tuff B awaits NUP’s official response to his petition. Depending on the outcome, he could either accept the party’s decision or pursue an independent candidacy, placing the voice of Makindye East residents above party directives.
“Whatever happens, I’m focused on my people first. Their decision matters more than party politics,” he reiterated.
With elections approaching, many political watchers will be closely following Tuff B’s next moves, which could potentially reshape the race in Makindye East and influence voter perceptions of party loyalty and transparency.
