Ugandan songstress Lydia Jazmine just shared one of the most personal stories of her life — her family’s deep roots in Rwanda.

While on a media tour in Kigali this week, the award-winning singer revealed that her paternal grandparents were originally from Rwanda before relocating to Uganda decades ago, during a time of war.

“That originally means I’m from Rwanda, but I didn’t meet them,” Jazmine explained candidly. “I think it was during the war that they came to Uganda. Some of them are dead, and some of them, we don’t know where they are.”

Her emotional revelation has sparked heartfelt reactions from fans across East Africa, many of whom praised her for embracing her heritage and speaking openly about her family’s past.

During the interview, Lydia shared that she intends to use her trip to Rwanda to reconnect with her ancestry, conduct family research, and possibly find long-lost relatives.

“I feel a strong connection to this place,” she said. “It’s emotional for me because it feels like part of me belongs here. I want to learn more about where I came from.”

For Jazmine, whose career has been built on passion and authenticity, this journey of self-discovery marks a new and deeply personal chapter.
