Ugandan songstress Lydia Jazmine just shared one of the most personal stories of her life — her family’s deep roots in Rwanda.

While on a media tour in Kigali this week, the award-winning singer revealed that her paternal grandparents were originally from Rwanda before relocating to Uganda decades ago, during a time of war.

“That originally means I’m from Rwanda, but I didn’t meet them,” Jazmine explained candidly. “I think it was during the war that they came to Uganda. Some of them are dead, and some of them, we don’t know where they are.”

Her emotional revelation has sparked heartfelt reactions from fans across East Africa, many of whom praised her for embracing her heritage and speaking openly about her family’s past.

Tracing Her Roots Back to Rwanda

During the interview, Lydia shared that she intends to use her trip to Rwanda to reconnect with her ancestry, conduct family research, and possibly find long-lost relatives.

“I feel a strong connection to this place,” she said. “It’s emotional for me because it feels like part of me belongs here. I want to learn more about where I came from.”

For Jazmine, whose career has been built on passion and authenticity, this journey of self-discovery marks a new and deeply personal chapter.

A Star Bridging Two Nations

Lydia Jazmine’s revelation comes at a time when cross-cultural collaboration between Ugandan and Rwandan artists is flourishing. Her acknowledgment of her Rwandan roots could open doors for new musical partnerships and cultural exchange.

Industry insiders have already hinted that the singer may be in talks for collaborations with Rwandan artists, further solidifying her bond with the country.

Known for hits like Masukka, Nkubanja, and Kapeesa, Lydia Jazmine continues to evolve — not just as an artist, but as a woman reclaiming her story.

A Deeper Connection Beyond Music

Beyond fame, the singer’s confession reveals the universal search for belonging — a theme that resonates deeply with fans who have also experienced displacement or family migration.

This heartfelt exploration of heritage shows another side of the artist fans rarely see — one that values history, legacy, and the ties that bind us across generations.

As she continues her media tour in Rwanda, Jazmine says she plans to visit historical sites and possibly connect with local historians to uncover more about her grandparents’ journey.

“I’m just grateful to be here,” she said. “This trip means a lot to me personally. It’s more than music — it’s about family.”

With her star power and authenticity, Lydia Jazmine is showing fans that embracing one’s past doesn’t diminish who you are — it enriches it.
