Bebe Cool Proposes Bold Transformation of Uganda’s National Theatre
Musician Bebe Cool has unveiled an ambitious vision for the future of Uganda’s National Theatre, proposing a major redevelopment that could reshape it into a modern entertainment and commercial powerhouse.
Speaking about urban planning and infrastructure development, the singer argued that the facility has untapped potential that could significantly contribute to Kampala’s economic and creative landscape.
His proposal includes parking towers, a shopping mall, and a fully upgraded auditorium designed to host large-scale local and international events.
Parking Towers at the Center of the Plan
Bebe Cool emphasized that parking infrastructure should be a priority in any modern city development.
He noted that in many developed urban centers, parking facilities generate substantial revenue due to limited space and high demand.
According to him, the National Theatre could benefit from constructing two large parking towers.
He suggested that these facilities would not only serve theatre-goers but also workers in nearby institutions, including Parliament.
But that’s not the full picture…

A Multi-Purpose Entertainment Complex
Beyond parking, Bebe Cool envisions the National Theatre evolving into a fully integrated commercial and cultural hub.
He proposed the addition of a shopping mall alongside a modern, world-class auditorium.
The upgraded venue, he argued, would significantly increase the site’s commercial viability while expanding opportunities for Uganda’s creative industry.
Such a transformation, in his view, would elevate the theatre from a cultural landmark to a multi-purpose urban destination.
Strategic Partnership Idea
Bebe Cool also suggested a strategic collaboration between the National Theatre and Kingdom Kampala, the high-end development owned by businessman Sudhir Ruparelia.
He believes that connecting these major developments could strengthen Kampala’s position as a regional hub for tourism, entertainment, and business conferences.
He further referenced Ruparelia’s continued investment in hospitality and conference infrastructure, including developments in Munyonyo.
According to him, better integration between such facilities would attract international performers, investors, and high-profile guests.
The Bigger Vision for Kampala
At the core of Bebe Cool’s proposal is a broader vision of Kampala as a modern, interconnected city with world-class entertainment infrastructure.
He argues that strategic planning and private-sector partnerships are essential for unlocking the city’s full economic and cultural potential.
If implemented, the idea would place the National Theatre at the center of a larger entertainment and business ecosystem.
What is currently a cultural landmark could, in Bebe Cool’s vision, become one of Kampala’s most commercially powerful entertainment complexes.
Whether or not the proposal materializes, Bebe Cool’s ideas have sparked renewed conversation about how Uganda’s creative spaces can evolve in the modern economy.
