TNS singer Maureen Peace Namugonza, popularly known as Ava Peace, has spoken out against church leaders whose reckless and judgmental statements cause unnecessary harm.

During a recent interview, Ava Peace expressed deep frustration with pastors and religious figures who make harsh, baseless judgments about others, particularly in highly publicized situations.

“Some artist was told that her pregnancy is devilish. I don’t think that was right. At times, we are still living our lives. What do you think this person and the father of the baby are thinking?” Ava Peace said.

“Planting Negativity is Trauma”

The singer referred to a viral incident in which a pastor publicly labeled fellow singer Sheebah Karungi’s pregnancy as ‘devilish.’ Ava Peace condemned the statement as insensitive, unfounded, and emotionally harmful, warning that such remarks can have lasting consequences.

“You’ve already planted negativity in people’s minds. That’s trauma to the person—imagine being called devilish while carrying your baby,” she explained.

Ava stressed that spiritual leaders hold significant influence over their followers. Because many believers trust and follow their pastors’ guidance, reckless statements like this can mislead the public and unfairly damage reputations.

Calling for Accountability in Churches

Ava Peace noted that church leaders should exercise caution and empathy when addressing personal matters in public forums.

“For the public, they take what they hear from their leaders. It was offensive. I don’t think he was right — I find it extremely uncomfortable in church,” she concluded.

The Broader Conversation: Faith and Respect

Ava Peace’s remarks come amid broader debates about the intersection of faith, social influence, and personal boundaries. Many Ugandan artists and influencers have echoed similar concerns, calling for respect and discretion from leaders who hold public authority.

By speaking out, Ava Peace emphasizes that faith communities must prioritize empathy, understanding, and responsible communication, rather than judgment and sensationalism.
