Ugandan singer Eezzy, real name Eric Opoka, has opened up about a violent attack he says left him seriously injured, requiring surgery and disrupting his music career for years.
Eezzy said the incident happened shortly after he had finished performing at a show, when a group of people allegedly surrounded and attacked him.
According to the singer, the individuals were not thieves, and he believes the assault was deliberate. However, he said he never fully understood why he had been targeted.
“I’ve never faced witchcraft in the music industry, but I was once attacked and beaten seriously,” Eezzy said. “The individuals who attacked me were not thieves. This happened after I had finished my performance at a certain show and a gang rounded me up.”
He said the attack left him with serious injuries, including blows to his head, and that he subsequently required surgery.
The physical consequences also had a major impact on his career. Eezzy said he “went down” for nearly three years while struggling to recover and regain his footing in the music industry.
“It was bad on my side because I went down like for three years,” he said.
Eezzy also said that information he later learned about the circumstances surrounding the attack frightened him and changed how he viewed Uganda’s competitive entertainment industry.
“After finding out certain things, why I was beaten and everything that transpired, it got me a bit scared and frightened,” he said.
The singer said the experience made him realize that artists need to be cautious as their careers grow, particularly when they begin making significant moves in the industry.
“That made me believe that the industry is not really easy, especially when you come with too much firepower,” Eezzy said.
Eezzy’s account offers a glimpse into a difficult period in his career, when injuries from the attack forced him to step back while he dealt with the aftermath.
While he described the people involved as a gang and said they appeared to have been sent, he did not identify who allegedly ordered the attack or establish a motive for it.
For Eezzy, the ordeal ultimately became a turning point, leaving him more cautious about navigating the music business as he continued pursuing his career.
