Ugandan saxophonist Isaiah Katumwa is using the power of instrumental music to deliver a message of hope with his new single, My Hope, released on October 19, 2026.
Rather than relying on lyrics, the musician allows his saxophone to carry the emotion behind the composition, encouraging listeners to find their own meaning in its melodies. The release centres on resilience, personal growth and the possibility of better days, even when life offers few guarantees.
For Katumwa, hope is not about pretending that difficulties do not exist. It is about continuing to believe in the future despite the challenges that come with everyday life.

“Hope is not the absence of difficulties. It is the decision to keep believing, even when circumstances do not give you every reason to,” Katumwa says.
That message forms the emotional foundation of My Hope, which arrives as the musician reflects on his own journey and the importance of embracing new beginnings.
He also hopes the single will resonate with people dealing with financial pressures, personal disappointments and uncertainty about what comes next.
“We are living in a time when so many people are carrying different burdens, sometimes silently,” he says. “Whatever season they may be going through, their story is not necessarily finished. There can still be something beautiful ahead.”
The track, however, is not designed to dictate how listeners should feel. Its instrumental format leaves room for individual interpretation, allowing people to connect with its melodies through their own experiences.
One listener might find comfort in its soulful passages, while another might connect with its more uplifting moments. That openness reflects Katumwa’s belief that instrumental music can communicate across languages, cultures and personal circumstances.
“Instrumental music has a beautiful way of reaching people beyond language,” he says. “Someone listening in Uganda, America, Europe, or anywhere else may be experiencing something completely different, yet the same melody can speak to them personally.”

Musically, My Hope draws on Katumwa’s signature Afro Smooth Jazz Fusion style, bringing together smooth jazz, African influences and contemporary sounds. The approach reflects his wider artistic direction: maintaining a connection to his roots while creating music capable of reaching international audiences.
For the Ugandan musician, that balance also highlights the place African influences can occupy within global instrumental music without losing their distinctive character.
The single carries a personal message, too. Katumwa views the release as a reminder that professional achievements do not mark the end of an artist’s development. There are still new ideas to explore, collaborations to pursue and opportunities to discover.
“My journey has taught me that we never stop growing, learning or discovering new possibilities. Every chapter prepares us for another,” he says.
That perspective points toward a next chapter that could extend beyond performing and recording, with Katumwa expressing interest in collaborations, creative opportunities and artist development.
Ultimately, My Hope does not promise that difficult circumstances will disappear overnight. Instead, the single offers a quieter proposition: that setbacks do not necessarily determine what comes next, and that the future can still hold possibilities worth pursuing.
For Katumwa, sometimes a saxophone melody is enough to begin telling that story.
