Ugandan music has delivered another batch of fresh visuals this week, with Eddy Kenzo, Azawi, Bebe Cool, Gloria Bugie, Afrie, Wake and Anna Makula among the artists giving fans new music videos to check out.
From Kompa-inspired sounds and Western African aesthetics to storytelling and a socially conscious message, the latest releases offer plenty of variety.
Here are five new Ugandan music visuals worth adding to your watchlist.
“Tewali Kibulayo” — Azawi
Azawi taps into the growing Kompa wave with “Tewali Kibulayo,” pairing the track with polished visuals that give her plenty of room to show off her dancing.
Kompa has increasingly found a place within Uganda’s contemporary music scene, and Azawi’s latest release adds her own flavour to the sound.
The visual presentation keeps the focus on the singer and her performance, making her dance moves a central part of the experience.
“Shekete” — Bebe Cool
Bebe Cool is also back with fresh visuals through “Shekete,” one of the two projects he released together.
Shot by Sasha Vybz, the video takes a Western Africa-inspired visual direction that complements the song’s presentation.
The result is an eye-catching release that gives “Shekete” a distinct visual identity while maintaining Bebe Cool’s established presence.
“5G” — Eddy Kenzo
Eddy Kenzo goes back to one of his familiar strengths — storytelling — in the visuals for his latest project, “5G.”
The song is built around praise for his lover and the influence she has over him, while the video helps bring that narrative to life.
Rather than relying solely on performance shots, Kenzo uses the visual to reinforce the story at the centre of the song.
“Moni Ami” — Gloria Bugie
Gloria Bugie continues her run of consistent releases with “Moni Ami,” another love-themed project from the emerging Ugandan singer.
The song carries a Kompa feel, adding another entry to the growing list of Ugandan releases drawing inspiration from the genre.
“Moni Ami” gives Bugie another opportunity to build on the momentum of her developing catalogue while keeping her focus on romantic music.
“Champion” — Afrie, Wake & Anna Makula
The most socially conscious release on the list comes from Afrie, Wake and Anna Makula with “Champion.”
The collaboration celebrates girls from Karamoja who chose education over early marriage, framing their decision as a pursuit of dreams and a different future.
The song gives the artists an opportunity to use music for more than entertainment, putting the spotlight on girls who chose education despite the challenges surrounding them.
With five different releases offering five different approaches to music and visuals, this week’s lineup shows the range currently emerging across Uganda’s music scene — from Kompa and romance to storytelling and social commentary.
