Veteran media personality and dramatist Charles James Senkubuge, popularly known as Senkubuge Siasa, has pledged Shs10 million toward playwright and actor John Segawa’s wedding as he launches a fundraising drive to support the upcoming celebrations.
Senkubuge made the pledge during the vigil of late veteran playwright and actor Alex Mukulu, held at the National Theatre as members of Uganda’s creative community gathered to mourn the veteran performer and celebrate his contribution to theatre and the performing arts.
But amid the tributes, Senkubuge also turned his attention to another issue within the creative fraternity: marriage and companionship.
He called on veteran single members of the industry, particularly men, to consider finding partners and building families rather than growing old alone.

According to Senkubuge, having a partner and family becomes particularly important later in life, when companionship and care can become increasingly significant.
“A man doesn’t deserve to pass on while living alone. A man needs to marry,” he said.
Senkubuge also reflected on his own desire to witness the weddings of people he considers his children, saying he had yet to see many of those celebrations.
“There are my children that I desired so much to witness their wedding functions, but I haven’t witnessed any,” he added.
That sentiment led to a concrete action.
“From Eagles Production, I think I witnessed one or two marital unions. Now, I want to establish a fundraising drive, and I’ve placed Shs10 million contribution towards John Segawa’s wedding,” Senkubuge said.
The initiative is expected to bring together other creatives and well-wishers who can contribute toward Segawa’s wedding celebrations.
The fundraising effort comes at a significant moment for Uganda’s theatre community, which is still mourning Mukulu, whose decades-long career left a lasting mark on the country’s performing arts.
Senkubuge’s pledge therefore adds a different dimension to the gathering, turning a conversation about companionship and family into a practical show of support for one of the industry’s own.
For now, the veteran dramatist is hoping his Shs10 million contribution will encourage others within the creative fraternity to join the fundraising drive and help make John Segawa’s wedding celebration a memorable one.
