Ugandan musician Kabako has publicly called out Ziza Bafana for attending the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF) event that launched President Yoweri Museveni’s campaign music album.

Bafana, a known supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), faced heavy backlash from fans and fellow musicians after his appearance at the function. Many questioned whether his attendance contradicted his political stance.

“We are probably the same age with him, so I don’t know who’s smarter, but people didn’t take it well. They even sent me that video of him wearing a mask at the event, but that wasn’t right,” Kabako said.

Ziza Bafana Responds to Criticism

In his defense, Bafana explained that he had attended the event at the invitation of longtime friend Eddy Kenzo. He claimed his purpose was to participate in discussions about the Copyright Amendment Law and to observe as artists presented their concerns to President Museveni.

Despite his explanation, Kabako dismissed the reasoning, arguing that the primary purpose of the gathering was the album launch, not policy discussions.

“They didn’t go for the copyright law, they went for the album. Even me, who lives in the neighborhoods of Munyonyo, didn’t bother to cross and attend,” Kabako added.

Fans Weigh In on the Controversy

Social media quickly became a hotbed for debate. Some criticized Bafana for appearing at a ruling party event despite his NUP affiliation, while others defended him, acknowledging that artists often navigate complex relationships within the entertainment and political space.

The Larger Debate: Music, Politics, and Integrity

This incident highlights the sensitive intersection of music and politics in Uganda, where musicians are closely watched for their affiliations and public appearances. Bafana’s attendance has sparked broader discussions about whether artists can remain neutral, or whether every public act is interpreted as a political statement.
