Ugandan singer Mary Bata has declared that no female artist in Uganda can match her in a musical battle, expressing confidence in her ability to outperform both established and emerging musicians on the microphone.
Bata made the bold remarks while discussing her musical abilities, insisting that she is not afraid of facing any female singer in a showdown. She mentioned artists including Chance Nalubega and Gloria Bugie as performers she believes cannot challenge her.
“There’s no artist present or in history that I’m afraid of. From the likes of Chance Nalubega up to Gloria Bugie, none can challenge me. In fact, you can combine them all and bring them,” Bata said.

Her comments place her firmly in the ongoing conversation about musical rivalries and who can deliver when artists are tested in a live performance setting.
Bata also addressed comparisons with Cindy Sanyu, a singer widely recognised for her vocal performances. According to Bata, Cindy has previously acknowledged her talent and given her credit, although Bata did not provide further details about the interaction.
The singer extended her confidence to potential battles against male musicians, saying she respects them but does not consider any of them beyond her reach musically.
“I would say I don’t fear the male musicians too, but I respect them. Musically, on the mic, I don’t fear anyone,” she said.
Despite her broad declaration, Bata singled out Winnie Nwagi as the female artist who could give her a serious challenge in a musical contest.
“Winnie Nwagi is the only one who can put me up to the challenge, maybe. She’s a bad one,” Bata added.
The acknowledgement gives Nwagi a special place in Bata’s assessment of Uganda’s female music scene. However, the comments remain Bata’s personal view of her abilities and those of her peers; no musical battle between the two singers was announced in the source material.
Bata also used the opportunity to promote her upcoming concert at Serena Hotel, encouraging fans to attend and judge her musical abilities for themselves.

She suggested that the performance would give audiences a chance to assess whether she has what it takes to face one artist or several competitors in a musical showdown.
Bata’s remarks have set out her position clearly: she believes she can take on Uganda’s female singers, while recognising Nwagi as a potential test of her confidence.
Whether that confidence will lead to an actual musical contest remains to be seen. For now, Bata is directing fans towards her upcoming concert, where they can experience her performance and form their own opinions.
