Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba has given State Minister for Local Government Justine Nameere seven days to apologise to him, intensifying a public disagreement between the two National Resistance Movement (NRM) figures.
Muhoozi issued the ultimatum through his official X account in the early hours of September 16, 2026, saying Nameere would face unspecified consequences if she failed to apologise.
“I’m giving Nameere exactly seven days to apologise to me. If she doesn’t, nothing will save her,” Muhoozi wrote.
The deadline is expected to expire on September 23, adding to a dispute that has unfolded publicly following the circulation of a video involving Nameere.
Disputed Video Sparks Disagreement
The disagreement followed the circulation of a short video clip that appeared to show Nameere warning Muhoozi against attacking NRM legislators.
A longer version of the video later emerged, reportedly showing that Nameere was addressing Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU) Secretary General and Kasambya County MP Daudi Kabanda rather than Muhoozi.
The shorter version appeared to omit the portion identifying Kabanda as the person being addressed, resulting in different interpretations of Nameere’s remarks.
The video subsequently generated discussion among political supporters and observers over the context in which the minister made the statements.
Muhoozi later warned that Nameere could lose her Cabinet position if she was found to be “misbehaving.”
“If Nameere is misbehaving, it’s a very simple problem. We shall remove her from cabinet. That’s a very simple thing,” he stated.
He also indicated that ministerial changes could be made during the current government term.
“Changing or dropping a minister who is not serving our people’s interests is the easiest thing. In this Kisanja we shall drop and reshuffle many,” Muhoozi said.
Kabanda Questions Nameere’s Election
The dispute has also drawn comments from Kabanda, who questioned aspects of Nameere’s election as Masaka City Woman MP.
Kabanda claimed that Nameere did not win the election fairly and called for a by-election.
The claim has added another political dimension to the disagreement surrounding the minister and senior PLU figures.
Earlier Video Controversy
The latest dispute follows an earlier controversy involving another edited video featuring Nameere and discussions concerning former Speaker Anita Among.
The earlier clip appeared to connect Nameere to plans for a celebration involving Among. Nameere subsequently said the video had been taken from a longer recording made on May 6, 2026.
According to Nameere, the original discussion concerned business opportunities available during political events. She said she was addressing young entrepreneurs and encouraging them to take advantage of opportunities associated with major gatherings and ceremonies.
She cited decorators, fashion designers, make-up artists and hairdressers among those who could benefit from such events.
Nameere accused unnamed individuals of editing videos in ways that could create misunderstandings and damage relationships.
She also defended her relationship with Muhoozi, saying the two had known each other since their university days and through media circles and PLU mobilisation activities in Greater Masaka.
Nameere Yet to Respond
Nameere had not publicly responded to Muhoozi’s latest seven-day ultimatum at the time of publication.
The dispute has attracted attention because both figures occupy prominent positions in Uganda’s political landscape.
With the deadline set for September 23, attention is now focused on whether Nameere will respond to Muhoozi’s demand and whether the disagreement will lead to further public or political action.
