Ugandan dancehall singer Vyper Ranking is ready to see what Kid Fox can really bring to the microphone following the veteran artist’s return to Uganda.
Vyper Ranking, real name Sadam Ayire, says he welcomes Kid Fox’s competitive approach but believes the dancehall legend should be put to the test to showcase his current creativity and lyrical ability.
That challenge, however, isn’t meant to erase Kid Fox’s place in Uganda’s dancehall history.
Vyper Ranking acknowledges the respect Kid Fox has commanded among local dancehall artists over the years. But he believes some of that respect has taken a hit following Kid Fox’s recent comments about Uganda’s music industry.
“He has come down to his rightful place. Dancehall artists have always accorded him a lot of respect, but that has declined now,” Vyper Ranking said.
The singer also suggested that Kid Fox should be given more opportunities to perform when appearing on media platforms so audiences can hear what the veteran artist can still deliver.
But Vyper Ranking isn’t stopping at talk.
He says he and other current dancehall artists are willing to face Kid Fox in a freestyle session — with no excuses and no room to hide behind reputation.
“We are also available to battle him; same mic, same beat, and we will check his legendary status,” he said.
For Vyper Ranking, Kid Fox’s return has created an opportunity for competition rather than conflict.
“He has returned with a very competitive attitude, and we welcome it because the current crop of artists is always ready for a challenge,” he added.
Kid Fox spent years away from Uganda before returning to the local music scene, and his comeback has already sparked conversations about his legacy, his views on the industry and his relationship with the new generation of artists.
Now, Vyper Ranking wants the debate settled where dancehall artists traditionally do it best — on the mic, over the same beat, with the bars doing the talking.
