Grace Nakimera has opened up about why her first marriage ended, revealing that different visions for the future eventually made it difficult for the relationship to continue.
The Ugandan singer says she had a wonderful marriage with her former muzungu husband, with whom she shares a child, but their ambitions and long-term goals did not ultimately align.
Nakimera described herself as someone who thinks far ahead when it comes to relationships and life. For her, building a future with a partner means imagining not only the years ahead but even the family and life that could come decades later.

“Sometimes we don’t end up with our first loves but what made ours not to work was that I am a very big dreamer,” Nakimera said. “I see myself with you, I see the future, I see 20 years, I see 30, I see grandchildren. I visualise a lot.”
According to the singer, that difference in outlook became increasingly difficult to overcome.
Nakimera said her former husband appreciated the glamorous side of her life and her identity as a star, but the couple struggled to establish shared dreams and concrete goals for their future.
“I was seeing far but he wasn’t. And then there was all this glam about me that he liked, me being a star, but the dreams we had to put in place, didn’t align,” she explained.
For Nakimera, the issue was not simply about romance. She wanted to see the relationship moving toward the future she had envisioned, and the lack of progress eventually became emotionally exhausting.

“When you reach a certain age with your partner and nothing is progressing, it’s very draining and you lose energy,” she said.
Her comments offer a candid look at the challenges that can emerge when two people care about each other but imagine very different lives ahead.
For Nakimera, being able to see — and build toward — a shared future appears to have been just as important as the love that existed in the marriage.
