Mukono Municipality MP Betty Nambooze Bakireke has pledged to pay school fees for one of the children of late comedian Kapere, promising to support the child throughout their education as long as she has the financial means.
Nambooze made the commitment during Kapere’s burial, where she joined family members, friends, fellow entertainers and supporters in paying their final respects to the comedian.
Kapere, popularly known as Kapere Lufotose, was a supporter of the National Unity Platform (NUP), the political party to which Nambooze belongs.
Speaking at the burial, the legislator identified one of his children, Quin, as the beneficiary of her pledge, saying she wanted to take responsibility for the child’s education.

“As long as God grants me life and the financial means, I want to take responsibility for paying Quin’s school fees. I want to support one of Kapere’s children through school. I am doing this because of NUP,” Nambooze said.
The MP explained that her decision was inspired by her commitment to the party and its supporters, particularly those who have remained associated with the political movement through difficult times.
She also praised NUP Secretary General Lewis Lubongoya for what she described as his consistent efforts to support party members facing personal and financial challenges.
Nambooze acknowledged that Lubongoya also has responsibilities and difficulties of his own but commended him for continuing to assist others.
“I thank our SG. You do a lot for us even in our absence. Sometimes I question myself whether he even sleeps,” she said.
She further revealed that she would channel the school fees through Lubongoya to help ensure the support reaches Quin.
“I will go through you to hand over Quin’s school fees,” she added.
Nambooze’s pledge comes as Kapere’s death has prompted gestures of support from people within Uganda’s entertainment and political circles.
Musician King Saha has also pledged to complete the comedian’s unfinished house, saying he is determined to see the project through regardless of whether he receives financial assistance from others.
The commitments have highlighted efforts by some of Kapere’s friends and supporters to help his family following his death.
