TikToker Madubarah Walks Free After a Year in Jail — Thanks King Saha for Standing by Him

After spending a full year behind bars, popular TikToker and shoe hawker Juma Musuuza, better known by his online moniker Madubarah, has finally regained his freedom — and his first stop was to thank singer King Saha, the star who supported him throughout his prison ordeal.

Madubarah, who built a massive online following for his comedic street videos and outspoken commentary, was arrested in November 2024 and later sentenced to 12 months in prison for what authorities described as hate speech and spreading malicious information about Uganda’s First Family.

Arrest That Shocked His Fans

The charges stemmed from a series of videos where Madubarah allegedly made demeaning remarks about President Yoweri Museveni, Speaker of Parliament Anita Among, and General Muhoozi Kainerugaba.

In August 2025, Entebbe Senior Magistrate Grade One Edgar Tibayeita Tusiime handed down the sentence, citing violations under Uganda’s Computer Misuse Act — a ruling that drew mixed reactions online.

Supporters saw the sentence as a blow to freedom of expression, while others claimed the content creator had crossed a line. Regardless of opinion, one thing was clear: his absence from TikTok left a noticeable void in Uganda’s digital comedy scene.

A Year Later — A Public Reappearance

This week, Madubarah reappeared in public for the first time since his arrest, visibly emotional but grateful. His first destination? The home of musician King Saha, who had publicly advocated for his release.

Speaking to local media, Madubarah said:

“King (Saha) was with me; he supported me the entire time since I was arrested, and we thank Allah for my release. He is the greatest.”

Fans quickly took to social media, flooding comment sections with messages of relief and celebration. Many called his release “a new beginning” for the outspoken TikToker, who became known for his humor, street-smart takes, and raw authenticity.

From Shoe Hawker to Digital Star

Before fame, Madubarah made a living selling shoes in downtown Kampala. His rise to online popularity was a true rags-to-riches digital story — propelled by short, witty videos that combined humor, political satire, and real-life struggles faced by everyday Ugandans.

Despite his humble background, his social media presence grew rapidly, amassing tens of thousands of followers across TikTok, Facebook, and Instagram.

However, his fearless commentary often landed him in hot water with authorities and critics alike, making him one of Uganda’s most controversial digital personalities.

King Saha’s Role During the Ordeal

Throughout Madubarah’s detention, King Saha — a vocal advocate for artists’ rights and freedom of speech — consistently spoke out in his defense.

The “Biri Biri” hitmaker used his platform to raise awareness about the arrest, calling it unfair and urging authorities to show compassion. Saha’s consistent support earned him praise across the entertainment industry and from fans who saw the gesture as proof of solidarity.

Now that Madubarah is free, his reunion with Saha marks a symbolic moment for Uganda’s creative community, highlighting the growing bond between musicians and digital content creators navigating the same social and political challenges.

What’s Next for Madubarah

As for what comes next, the content creator hinted that he plans to return to social media — but with more caution. Insiders say he intends to focus on inspirational and entertaining videos while avoiding politically sensitive topics.

Still, his followers are eager for his signature humor and unfiltered street commentary to make a comeback.

Online discussions about his release have reignited debates about digital freedom, satire, and state control over online content in Uganda.

Some social media users applauded his resilience, while others urged him to channel his energy into “positive storytelling” that uplifts rather than provokes.

A Symbol of Digital Defiance

Madubarah’s story reflects the tightrope many Ugandan creatives walk — using humor and art to speak truth while navigating censorship and potential legal backlash.

His case remains one of the most talked-about examples of how social media influence collides with politics in the country.

For now, though, the outspoken TikToker is focusing on gratitude. With King Saha by his side, he’s ready to rebuild his career — this time, with a deeper understanding of the power and limits of free expression.

“Freedom is sweet,” he reportedly said after walking out of prison. “I’ve learned a lot, and I thank everyone who stood by me.”
