The Ugandan singer has revealed that she initially disliked Siri Regular, admitting she resisted recording the track because she felt it was “too local” and doubted it would connect with listeners. Speaking during an interview on Shalom 256, Spice Diana said she repeatedly asked producers to skip the song in the studio, while her former manager, Manager Roger, remained convinced it had all the ingredients of a hit.
In the end, Roger’s instincts proved right, as Siri Regular went on to become one of the biggest songs of Spice Diana’s career.
She Didn’t Want to Record the Song
Looking back, Spice Diana admitted she struggled to embrace the record from the very beginning.
According to the singer, she simply couldn’t connect with the song and often asked the production team to move on whenever it came up during studio sessions.
“I would tell them to press next and remove it. I had even refused to do it in the studio. I’d feel sick whenever I wanted to record it.”
Even after the song was completed, her opinion didn’t change.
She explained that Siri Regular was included on an EP despite her reservations, adding that she wasn’t particularly attached to any of the songs on the project.
“So we added it on the EP and I didn’t even like any of the songs there, but for Siri Regular I felt it was too local. We eventually just released the EP.”
At the time, she believed other songs on the project had stronger commercial potential.
All Her Hopes Were on Doctor
When it came time to promote the EP, Spice Diana had already picked her favorite.
The singer said she was determined to begin with Doctor, a track written by Mr. Lee that she personally believed had the best chance of becoming a major success.
According to her, the team invested heavily in the project.
They reportedly spent about Shs 30 million producing the music video and even flew Kenyan comedian Eric Omondi to feature in it.
