Ugandan singer Vinka believes the music industry has changed significantly over the years, arguing that women are now playing a dominant role in the space and rejecting the idea that female artists must work twice as hard as men to succeed.
The Swangz Avenue star shared her views during an interview with Frank Ntambi, where she reflected on her nine-year music journey, the challenges she has faced, and her approach to building a successful career.
According to Vinka, while her journey has not been without obstacles, she has never allowed challenges to become excuses. Instead, she says she focuses on consistency, discipline, and putting in the same effort expected from any artist.
She explained that she does not see the industry as one controlled by men and believes opportunities are available for artists who are willing to work.
“It doesn’t cross my mind that the industry is male-dominated. I’ve never let the female narrative drive my hard work; maybe it’s because I was raised mostly around boys,” Vinka said.
The singer added that the current state of Uganda’s music scene is different from previous years.
“If you critically look at it, actually, the industry is not male-dominated. It’s dominated by females, currently, unlike in the past.”
Vinka’s comments come at a time when female artists in Uganda continue to gain visibility, headline major events, and build strong audiences across different music genres.
The singer also challenged the common belief that women in entertainment must put in double the effort compared to their male counterparts.

While acknowledging that female artists face challenges, Vinka said she does not approach her career with the mindset that she has an automatic disadvantage because of gender.
“Female artists are making moves, but I don’t think as a female I have to work twice as hard; I don’t buy the narrative. I work like any other person without such excuses.”
For Vinka, success is determined by commitment and talent rather than focusing on whether the industry favors one gender over another.
Her comments reflect a broader conversation within Uganda’s entertainment industry about representation, opportunities, and the growing influence of female musicians.
Over the past decade, female artists have increasingly become major forces in Ugandan music, with many building successful careers, attracting large fan bases, and taking leading positions in the industry.
Vinka has been one of the artists contributing to that shift. Since joining the music scene, she has built a reputation through hit songs, performances, and collaborations while becoming one of Swangz Avenue’s recognizable names.
Her career has included both achievements and challenges, but she says her focus has always remained on improving her craft and delivering results.
The singer is now preparing for another major milestone in her career—her maiden concert scheduled for Friday, 21st August 2026, at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
The upcoming show represents a significant moment for Vinka as she prepares to celebrate nearly a decade in the music industry with her own headline event.
As she continues to push forward, Vinka says her approach remains simple: work hard, stay focused, and avoid limiting herself through narratives about gender.
Her message is clear—while the industry continues to evolve, artists ultimately have to create their own opportunities through dedication and consistency.
