Grace Nakimera has explained why she would choose a Ugandan man over a foreign partner when it comes to dating and marriage, pointing to cultural differences as a major factor.
The singer, who has a Norwegian baby daddy, said she appreciates the way foreigners express love but believes a partner who shares her cultural background would be a better match.
For Nakimera, the issue goes beyond romance. She said her upbringing and Baganda traditions have shaped how she approaches relationships, including expectations around everyday cultural practices.
“I am a very cultured girl, I know cooking, kneeling down and all those things, so picture this him telling me not to kneel and rather to stand when serving him because he said I was making him feel bad yet in our Baganda culture we kneel down, so it’s not easy,” she explained.
That example, according to Nakimera, illustrates how seemingly ordinary cultural differences can become complicated inside a relationship.
While she said she admires the way foreigners love, the singer still put Ugandan men at the top of her list, describing them as “the best” when it comes to relationships.
Nakimera also described herself as a reserved woman who has not been involved with many men. Her experiences, she said, have reinforced her belief that sharing a cultural background with a partner can make relationships easier to navigate.
“Ours have ‘work,’ I think it’s important to find a partner in your culture. Actually, as long as he’s Ugandan, you can compromise,” Nakimera said.
She further praised Ugandan men for being present when they are serious about a relationship, while suggesting that cultural values influence how they approach certain situations.
For Nakimera, then, romance is not simply about how someone expresses affection. Shared traditions, expectations and an understanding of where each person comes from also matter—and that is why, when it comes to choosing between Ugandan and foreign partners, she says she knows where she stands.
