Ugandan singer Lydia Jazmine has drawn a clear line between dating and marriage, revealing that while she is open to dating a fellow celebrity, she would rather marry someone who lives outside the spotlight.
The “You and Me” singer explained that dating another person in the entertainment industry can work because both partners understand the demands and pressures that come with having public careers.
Asked whether she would date someone from the entertainment industry, Lydia gave a straightforward answer.
“Yes, I would because we’re doing the same job,” she said.

But when it comes to marriage, Lydia’s preference changes. She admitted that settling down with someone who is also in the limelight can be difficult because fame comes with its own set of pressures.
“Getting married to someone in fame is a bit tough. The limelight comes with a lot of problems,” she said.
At this point in her life, Lydia said she would prefer a partner who is not famous because she believes such a relationship could offer greater peace and less stress.
“I think that lasts longer and it’s more peaceful, with less stress,” she added.
That does not mean Lydia believes celebrity relationships cannot succeed. She stressed that dating within the entertainment industry requires both people to understand and respect the demands of each other’s careers.
“But dating in the industry, both of you must be understanding to each other. When that is achieved, everything else will move on smoothly,” she explained.
Beyond a partner’s profession, Lydia also shared the qualities that initially attract her to a man.
She said physical presentation catches her attention before she gets to know someone deeply, particularly how a man dresses, smells and carries himself.
“On outer looks, before knowing a man, I consider someone looking good, smelling good, and I also look at one’s shoes, watch and how you’re dressed. That talks a lot about you. In general, your appearance.”

However, appearance is only the starting point. Lydia said character matters significantly once a relationship develops.
Describing herself as humble and gentle, she said she wants a partner who is understanding, respectful and capable of showing the same level of care that she gives.
“I’m not a complicated person. I’m very humble and gentle, so I want someone who is very understanding and respectful because I’m so respectful. I care a lot, so I want someone who cares too.”
For Lydia, respect is one of the foundations of a healthy relationship because it establishes boundaries and influences how partners treat each other.
“When someone has respect, that means there are very many things you won’t do. Respect covers a lot of things,” she said.
The singer made the comments during an appearance on NRG Radio Uganda, where she discussed her music, personal journey and lessons from life.
For now, Lydia’s relationship philosophy appears straightforward: dating a fellow entertainer is not off the table, but when it comes to marriage, she would rather find peace away from the glare of the limelight.
