Salvado and Dr. Hillary Okello took centre stage at the sold-out 2 Kings One Mic comedy show, delivering an evening of stand-up comedy and storytelling at Kampala Serena Hotel on Friday, October 23.
Unlike entertainment events where DJ sets and live music performances can compete for the audience’s attention, the I&M Bank-powered show kept its focus firmly on comedy, allowing the two headline acts to lead the night with observations about everyday life, social trends and shared experiences.
Hosted by Dr. Mitch Egwang, the event brought together politicians, business figures, socialites and comedy fans for a programme built around different comedic styles rather than a lengthy musical line-up.
Janzi Band opened the evening with renditions of popular songs across several genres, warming up the audience before the comedians took over.
Female stand-up comedian Cotilda Inapo followed, using her signature humour and observations about everyday life to set the tone. Okello Okello, who also works as a film actor, then brought his own stage presence and comedic approach to the programme.
Dr. Hillary Okello was among the night’s main attractions. Known for his storytelling, he drew on current affairs, social trends and familiar everyday situations to build jokes that connected with the audience. His delivery turned ordinary experiences into comic moments, keeping the room engaged as his set progressed.
Salvado took the stage as the final act, bringing polished delivery, energetic performance and carefully timed punchlines. His material moved between everyday observations and witty commentary, showcasing the style that has helped establish his following across the continent.
One of the evening’s more personal moments came when Salvado asked for special recognition of his mother, who was among the audience. The gesture added a family dimension to a show otherwise centred on humour and entertainment.
Despite their experience performing before live audiences, both headliners gave the evening its own character through their individual approaches to comedy. The audience’s enthusiastic reactions, including standing ovations, reflected the reception their performances received.
The event was supported by I&M Bank Uganda Limited as the official banking partner, alongside Uganda Waragi, SafeBoda, The Living Group, Aquafina, Pepsi, Euro Gold Refinery and Virah Forex Bureau.
For I&M Bank, the partnership was an opportunity to connect with customers through a shared entertainment experience. Annette Nakiyaga, the bank’s Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said comedy brings people from different backgrounds together.
“We are glad to have supported ‘2 Kings One Mic’ and to see our customers enjoy an evening filled with laughter,” Nakiyaga said, adding that the experience reflected the bank’s commitment to being “On Your Side” during moments that matter to its customers.
With its sold-out audience and emphasis on the headliners, 2 Kings One Mic demonstrated how stand-up comedy can carry an entire evening, giving Salvado and Hillary Okello the space to connect with audiences through storytelling and humour.
